Pétanque Devon

A Region of Pétanque England

Pétanque—often known as “French Boules”—has been enjoyed across Devon for many years, but it was in 1993 that the Devon Pétanque League was officially formed. Just two years later, in 1995, Devon became part of the national governing body, helping to establish the Devon Pétanque Region.
Since then, the sport has flourished. Twinning associations, U3A groups, and affiliated clubs have grown and become firmly established in communities including Dartmouth, Liverton, Exeter, Westward Ho!, Ottery St Mary, Bovey Tracey, Starcross, Totnes, Newton Abbot, Sidmouth, and many more towns and villages across the county.
Devon players quickly became involved in national competition, first entering the BPA Inter-Regional Championships in 1996 on the Isle of Wight. Today, clubs and individuals regularly compete in events across the country. The national body has also evolved and is now known as Pétanque England.
With clubs spread throughout Devon—and extending into West Somerset—there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.  If you’re looking for a sport that combines friendly competition, social connection, and gentle exercise, why not give pétanque a try?
